Zoe has been a parent for 22 years. She home educated her own children and has worked with
every age range in various settings. Zoe trained as a Learning Disability Nurse working for ten
years with children with Learning disabilities and challenging behaviour in respite and educational settings. She completed her Child-minding training in 2006 and then went on to run a pre-school. Zoe ran the Down to Earth Community farm project teaching children about animal care and running educational sessions, worked at a junior school as a specialist in learning disabilities and education, and she also trained as a Mechanic. Zoe has studied many alternative approaches to learning including Steiner, Montessori, and the teachings of J.Krishnamurti. She completed her Montessori Diploma in Primary education and, she began running an alternative education project for children back in England in 2013. In 2016 she moved to Portugal and ran the project as a ALC Center of Learning before Founding the International School in September 2017.
Aldina is a Portuguese teacher who really wanted to be able to work in an alternative setting. She teaches all subjects up to year 6 and Portuguese to the older children also. She is also an examiner for the Portuguese Education system and works to support children who have problems within the Portuguese Educational system. She invents games and activities to ignite the children’s imagination and to allow them to also learn Portuguese along the way.
Laura works with our little ones three days a week in the Roots Room.She worked with small children in a preschool setting in Italy before coming to us. She creates arts and crafts sessions, yoga, and offers sessions on a range of other subjects.
Inês is a Portuguese teacher who felt that she could not work in mainstream schools and wanted to seek out an alternative way of teaching and learning. She moved to Sweden where she has worked for the last year in a Montessori school. She is passionate about alternative education and loves working with the children crating interesting sessions and ideas for imaginative learning.
Andrea is a UK trained teacher who has worked in Inner city London and Kent. Andrea is a specialist Design Technology and Art teacher. After many years working as a classroom teacher and head of department she moved to Portugal with her family to seek out a simpler life and an alternative approach to education. Andrea enjoys offering sessions where the children can explore different materials, solve design problems and be creative.
Paul is also a UK trained teacher who worked in Kent teaching Sports, Public Services and Child Development. Paul is a creative and imaginative teacher who loves to offer active, fun and engaging sessions and discover inventive ways to deliver and embed numeracy and literacy.
Tim is a Science specialist who loves to create intriguing lessons that capture the children’s imaginations and thirst for knowledge. Tim offers practical Science sessions full of experiments and fascination.
